The Ministry of Interior clarified Today, Friday, its regulations regarding firearms licenses for candidates and their security guards.
The ministry's spokesman, Major General Khaled Al-Muhanna, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "The issue of bearing arms for the candidates or their escorts depends on the controls set by the Ministry of Interior," noting that "there is a directorate specialized in granting firearms licenses, and without these official licenses, there will be accountability by the police.”
Al-Muhanna added that "There are no special forces to protect every candidate, but in cases of large electoral gatherings, there is protection for these gatherings," stressing that "no complaints about threats or attacks on candidates have been registered so far".
