Wasit Governor Mohammed Jamil al-Mayahi said on Friday that the local government in Wasit province is striving to implement what was stated in the government program through promising development plans.
Al-Mayahi said in a speech during the celebration of the 103rd anniversary of the founding of Wasit Governorate, which was followed by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "The province launched a five-year development plan from 2019 until 2024," pointing out that "the province was able to achieve 95% of its set development goals."
Al-Mayahi called for "legislating the law of Wasit, the agricultural capital of Iraq," stressing that "the area of valid agricultural land in the province is 40 million dunums, which qualifies it to secure 50% of Iraq's agricultural and animal needs."
"The local government in Wasit has developed a new five-year plan through which it seeks to solve the housing crisis in the province through the real estate developer and investment project, and seek to increase the area of green spaces and establish a green belt to confront the risks of desertification in the province," al-Mayahi said.
He added that "the five-year plan also includes digital transformation and a complete program has been developed to use modern technology, and the plan also includes attention to the environmental aspect and the establishment of green spaces in all cities, as well as the implementation of development investment projects such as Al-Kout refinery, industrial city, commercial area and other oil projects."
