The Ministry of Agriculture announced today, Friday, that the production of dates in the country is about one million tons, and that it is reserved by some countries of the world.
A spokesman for the Ministry of Agriculture, Hamid Al-Nayef, explained in a special statement to the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "there are no agricultural crops that can be exported from Iraq, except for dates, and it is hoped that Iraq's production of dates will exceed 30% of last year," noting that "the production of dates in the country is about one million tons, and that Iraqi dates are reserved by some countries of the world because of their quality and taste."
On the other hand, he pointed out that "there are several challenges facing the agricultural sector, most notably the lack of financial support and water problems caused by water scarcity," noting that "the ministry will follow the best methods in preparing an ambitious agricultural plan that achieves food security for citizens, and seeks to sustain food security." of wheat and barley crops.
He added: "During the current month, the plan will be prepared after the percentage of the cultivated areas comes from the governorates, and the plan will be developed in cooperation with the Ministry of Water Resources and approved, by providing the water quota for agricultural areas, and that there is communication with the Ministry of Water Resources in this regard."
Al-Nayef expressed "fears about not providing the necessary quantities of water," expressing at the same time his hope that "the water crisis will be remedied."
