Baghdad and Tehran affirms keenness sustain bilateral cooperation

    Foreign Minister Fouad Hussein discussed with his Iranian counterpart, Mohammad Javad Zarif, issues of common interest.

    The media office of Foreign Affairs Ministry said in a statement , today, Tuesday, that "Foreign Minister Fouad Hussein met his Iranian counterpart, Mohammad Javad Zarif, in Tehran.  According to the statement, the minister expressed his desire to work to support and strengthen relations between Baghdad and Tehran, reflecting their depth, stressing his keenness to maintain bilateral cooperation in various fields in the next stage to achieve the common interests of the two countries, and to activate the memorandums of understanding arranged upon with the Iraqi government. 

    The statement indicated that "the two sides discussed visions and ideas on regional and international issues of common concern, as well as developments in the region, the challenges it faces, and the need to support peace and stability through concerted efforts. 

    For his part, Zarif affirmed his country's keenness to deepen the bonds of relations between the two countries, expressing his thanks for Iraq's positions aimed at pushing the calm option and avoiding escalation in the region.
