The Russian Ministry of Health revealed the start of clinical trials of an anti-leukemia drug, especially for the most aggressive and dangerous types.
The ministry indicated, in a statement, that the drug "Utzhefra" for CAR-T cells, which was developed by experts of the National Medical Research Center for Hematology affiliated with the Ministry of Health, is intended for the treatment of malignant blood diseases, and after the completion of the tests and its registration, its production will begin at the center's licensed site.
The head of the Department of Cellular and Immunotherapy at the National Medical Research Center for Hematology, Olga Aleshina, explained that this drug will help patients suffering from relapses and treatment-resistant forms of cancer.
According to the ministry, 60 patients will receive the new drug in clinical trials next year, as this drug will give them and thousands of patients hope for recovery.
It is noteworthy that leukemia is a cancer that affects the tissues responsible for the formation of blood cells, such as bone marrow and the lymphatic system, where the bone marrow produces abnormal white blood cells.
