The Head of the Border Ports Authority Omar Al-Waeli, announced on Tuesday,, that the authority was able to curb smuggling operations, while the follow-up committee for the implementation of the government program and strategic planning indicated that the federal government has no authority over the region's ports.
Al-Waeli said, during his hosting to the committee to follow up the implementation of the government program, in the presence of the Iraqi News Agency (INA) reporter: The file of automation of customs and border crossings did not achieved from 2009 to 2020 due to corruption.
Al-Waeli added that Border Ports Authority was able to reduce smuggling operations through the border crossings.
The head of the Parliamentary Monitoring Committee for the implementation of Governmental Program and strategic planning, MP Hazim al-Khalidi said that there is a problem in the process of preparing the government program, which did not address the program of the ports and customs authorities.
MP Hazim al-Khalidi added that there is no authority for the federal government over the ports and crossings in the Kurdistan region.
