The Parliamentary Oil and Energy Committee intends to host the defense and interior ministers to discuss the repercussions of targeting power transmission towers, adding that the improvement of electricity depends on building new stations and establishing distribution networks.
A member of the Parliamentary Oil and Energy Committee, MP Amjad Al-Aqabi, said in a statement to the Iraqi News Agency (INA) on Saturday: The protection of the power towers is the responsibility of the security forces within its geographical sector, in addition to the Energy Police, noting that since more than three months, the power towers are targeted and detonated which cause of major problems for the Ministry of Electricity.
Al-Aqabi pointed out that the Energy Committee addressed the Prime Minister and stressed the need for the Ministries of Defense, Interior and the Popular Mobilization Forces to protect the power towers.
He added that improving electrical energy in Iraq needs to build production and transformation stations, as well as distribution networks.
