Salih: The upcoming elections are crucial

The President of the Republic, Barham Salih, affirmed, today, Tuesday, that the upcoming elections are crucial and foundational, and their integrity and fairness must be guaranteed.

Salih said in a statement issued while presiding over an expanded meeting on monitoring the parliamentary elections, and received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "one of the causes of political tension in Iraq is due to deficiencies in the electoral process, which lost much of its legitimacy in front of the Iraqi citizen, and therefore the upcoming elections October is crucial and foundational, and its integrity and justice must be guaranteed."
He added, "The upcoming elections are of great importance because they come after a popular movement and a broad national consensus that the situation in the country needs radical reforms, and it will also be an important test for the country's democratic path and its future," noting that "restoring the confidence of voters in the electoral process and ensuring Broad participation should be a top priority, so that the elections will be the true peaceful path to change and reform the general situation, and support the democratic process in the country, which has been questioned because of the violations that accompanied the previous electoral processes.
