The Speaker of Parliament, Muhammad al-Halbousi, discussed, today, Tuesday, with Canadian Ambassador Orlick Shannon, the files of elections and the displaced.
The media office of the Speaker of the House of Representatives stated in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "Al-Halbousi received Canadian Ambassador Orlik Shannon, and the meeting discussed developments in the country and the upcoming early elections, and the need to create the appropriate atmosphere for holding elections that express the citizen's will and ambition in choosing his representatives." As well as the importance of international monitoring, and the role of the United Nations Mission in Iraq (UNAMI) in monitoring the elections to ensure broad participation.
The statement added, "The meeting touched on the file of the displaced, and emphasized the need for the international community to exert more efforts to restore stability, praising Canada's efforts in this field."
