Parliament Speaker Muhammad Al-Halbousi and the new Australian Ambassador to Iraq, Paula Ganley, discussed today, Monday, the importance of the role of the United Nations mission in monitoring the elections.
The office of the Speaker of the House of Representatives said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "the Speaker of Parliament, Muhammad Al-Halbousi, received today, Monday, the new Australian Ambassador to Iraq, Paula Ganley," noting that "Al-Halbousi congratulated Ambassador Paula on the occasion of assuming her new duties, wishing her good luck."
He added, "The developments in the country and early elections and the need to ensure their integrity and provide electoral security were discussed, to create an appropriate environment for fair and impartial elections that express the will of the citizen, and the importance of the international community's role as the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) in monitoring the elections, to enhance confidence in the process." elections for broad participation in the elections.
"The meeting also discussed the need for the international community to support Iraq in the file of the displaced and restoring stability," he added.
