The AFC confirmed, today, Sunday, the withdrawal of North Korea from the qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup finals next month in Qatar.
The AFC said, "It will refer the withdrawal of North Korea to FIFA, and will announce at the appropriate time how its withdrawal from the qualifiers will affect the Group E ranking."
South Korea was expected to host in June the remaining matches in Group H before the start of the second round of the Asian World Cup qualifiers, but North Korean officials informed their South Korean counterparts this month of their intention to withdraw.
Before withdrawing, North Korea was fourth in the group, after five games, tied with eight points with South Korea, who have one more game left.
