During the current year, the Ministry of Industry and Minerals will open petrochemical, iron and steel plants in Basra Governorate, while confirming that these projects contribute to providing raw materials and hard currency .
The official spokesman of the Ministry, Mortada Al-Safi, said in a statement to Al-Sabah, which was followed by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "The works related to the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the petrochemical, iron and steel plants have reached advanced stages," indicating that "their opening will contribute to supporting the national industry in addition to providing materials." Crude is involved in a large number of different industries, as well as providing hard currency used to import it from outside the country .
The Ministry of Industry announced last year that the governor of Basra had provided financial support in the amount of 50 billion dinars to complete the iron and steel plant project, which had been suspended for 15 years, and that there is cooperation with the Ministry of Oil and the American (Shell) Company to develop plans for the (Al-Nebras) petrochemical project in Basra, which It is one of the largest projects in the country .
