A study conducted by the University of Leeds, which included 25 fans, that watching football contribute to lower blood pressure and improve mood.
The researchers examined the cases of Leeds United fans, aged between 20 and 62, during three major games in the championship last season. The heart rate was recorded before and after each match, as well as during the intermission break.
They found that fans' heart rates increased by about 64%, peaking at 130 beats per minute, with a normal heart rate ranging from 60 to 100 beats per minute. This is equivalent to a one-and-a-half-hour fast walk, the researchers claimed.
The study showed that the victory of the favorite football team led to lowering the blood pressure of the fans, giving them a psychological boost that continued throughout the day in some.
