The Commander of the Ground Forces, Lieutenant General Qassem Muhammad Al-Muhammadi, confirmed on Saturday that operations to hunt down remnants of terrorist groups continue across remote areas, particularly in the Hamrin Mountain range and the western desert region.

In a statement followed by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), Al-Muhammadi said, “The security forces have successfully eradicated the terrorist groups in Wadi Tharthār area through ongoing search operations supported by airstrikes.”

He added, “The terrorist elements have exploited the challenging geography of Wadi al-Shay and Al-Kara areas, which provide them with safe havens to hide. However, continuous tracking, aerial surveillance, and targeted airstrikes have diminished their ability to maintain a significant presence and drastically reduced the threat they posed.”

Regarding border security operations with Syria, Al-Muhammadi highlighted that “the Ministry of Defense units and the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) have redeployed in the border areas from the town of Al-Qaim to the Iraq-Syria-Jordan triangle. A defensive line has been established starting from Al-Qaim towards Akkas field and Hauran area, extending to Al-Husseiniyat and down to Al-Rutba region.”
