The Finnish Ambassador to Iraq, Anu Sarela, confirmed on Sunday that the Iraqi community is highly active in Finnish society, contributing across various sectors.

In an interview with the Iraqi News Agency (INA), Ambassador Sarela stated that over 20,000 Iraqis currently reside in Finland, with the majority having been born there, while others obtained asylum or Finnish citizenship.
She emphasized that the Iraqi community plays an important role in Finland, with many individuals working in diverse fields. Furthermore, some have even returned to Iraq to rebuild their lives, which opens up opportunities for strengthening relations between the two countries.

Regarding education, the ambassador acknowledged the difficulty of transplanting an entire education system from one country to another. However, she pointed out key aspects that could be beneficial for Iraq, specifically in terms of equal access to education. In Finland, public education is provided equally to all, ensuring fairness in opportunities for all students.

Ambassador Sarela also highlighted that teaching is one of the most respected professions in Finland. Teachers are highly encouraged and receive significant benefits, which motivates many students to aspire to become educators in the future. She noted that all Finnish teachers hold a master’s degree and possess high-level skills.

Moreover, she explained that the Finnish educational environment fosters a love for learning by incorporating fun and humor into lessons, creating an atmosphere that is attractive to children and encourages their passion for education.
