Romanian Ambassador to Iraq Radu Octavina Dobre emphasized the depth of bilateral relations between the two countries on Saturday, noting that the progress achieved in Iraq opens new horizons for economic and investment cooperation.
The Romanian ambassador told the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "I was honored to visit the Old City and the shrine of Imam Ali in Najaf, and I witnessed the depth of the good relations that bind our two countries, especially since both have gone through previous dictatorial experiences."
He emphasized that "some Romanian companies are still operating in Iraq, and Romania has extensive experience in trade and establishing various projects, and seeks to expand economic cooperation with Iraq."
He added that "Romania's presence in Iraq dates back to before 2003, when there were many major companies operating in the country, but the challenges of terrorist attacks and the COVID-19 pandemic affected the progress of those projects."
He pointed out that "his country has not yet had investment opportunities in Iraq, and is seeking to develop its relations in this regard," stressing that "the progress Iraq has made since 2021 opens the door to new investment opportunities and broader economic cooperation."
Regarding entry visas to Romania, he explained that "the procedures are conducted in accordance with European Union laws, and details for applying for a visa are available on the embassy's official website. Those who meet the required conditions will obtain a visa without obstacles."
He continued, "Romania is a preferred study destination for Iraqi students, with approximately 1,000 students studying there annually, reflecting the strength of academic cooperation between the two countries."
