The Ministry of Planning announced today, Monday, the basic results of the population census, indicating that the population of Iraq is 46 million and 118 thousand people.

The ministry said in a report announcing the basic results of the general population census, which was attended by the correspondent of the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "the basic results of the general population census showed that the population of Iraq is 46 million and 118 thousand people, after the initial results announced last November stated that their number is 45 million and 407 thousand people."

She added that "the data that will be provided will be of high quality, which will enable the formulation, evaluation and tracking of public policies, and the taking of data-based decisions. This data will also enable the design of programs that achieve Iraq's national goals and contribute to achieving the country's sustainable development goals."

She stressed that "we at the United Nations Population Fund are committed and very proud to support the government's efforts in this area, and we will continue to push efforts to benefit from the results of this census to translate them into programs that benefit the population and contribute to building a prosperous and equal Iraq."
