Japanese Ambassador to Iraq Akira Endo affirmed on Friday the determination to continue supporting the Iraqi government's efforts and to contribute more to achieving sustainable development. Endo indicated that the Basra Refinery Project will contribute strongly to Iraqi economic development.
"Today, we celebrate the birthday of the Japanese Emperor with friends in Baghdad, where Japan has succeeded over the past eighty years and has become a country that respects global values and the spirit of international cooperation. It continues to cooperate with various parties concerned to achieve peace and stability in the region and around the world," said Endo in a speech during a celebration held by the Japanese Embassy on the occasion of the birthday of the Japanese Emperor and the National Day, attended by the reporter of the Iraqi News Agency - INA.
He noted that "Iraq has come a long way in achieving peace and stability, considering Japan a true friend, as Japan, the government and the people, have supported the efforts of the government and people of Iraq to build a peaceful and prosperous society."
"Since 2003 until today, the total Japanese support for reconstruction, development, social and economic assistance to Iraq has exceeded $20 billion, and the Basra Refinery Development Project, one of the largest projects financed by Japanese loans worldwide, is expected to be completed this year," he added.
He indicated that "this project will contribute greatly to the economic development of Iraq in the medium and long term by diversifying resources and increasing the friendly bilateral relationship."
Endo stressed that "based on the strong relationship with Iraq, we are determined to continue supporting the efforts of the Iraqi government and contribute more to the economic and social development in Iraq to achieve sustainable development led by the public and private sectors, and we hope that its benefits will benefit the young generations who protect the future of this country."
