The Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Arsenio Dominguez arrived at Basra International Airport on Sunday to assess Iraq’s port infrastructure and ongoing projects at Al-Faw Grand Port, the Iraqi Ministry of Transport announced.
According to a statement from the ministry, Transport Minister Razzaq Muhaibis Al-Saadawi received Domínguez upon his arrival.
“This visit marks the first of its kind by an IMO Secretary-General to Iraq,” Al-Saadawi said, highlighting Iraq’s commitment to international maritime safety and security standards. He emphasized the importance of engaging global maritime organizations in strategic partnerships to develop Iraq’s shipping and port sectors.
