The Speaker of the Parliament, Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani, held on Thursday the political blocs responsible for the lack of a quorum for the parliament sessions.
"In light of the current circumstances that require from us all the highest levels of national responsibility and hard work to serve our honorable people, I announced yesterday the postponement of the scheduled session of the Iraqi Parliament due to the lack of a legal quorum," said Al-Mashhadani in a statement - received by the Iraqi News Agency - INA.
Al-Mashhadani added, "This postponement, which came as a result of the absence of several MPs, and it is not the first, reflects a real challenge facing the Council in performing its constitutional and legislative duties."
He explained that "the lack of a quorum does not only affect the course of legislative work but also negatively affects the interests of the Iraqi people who are looking forward to decisive legislation that enhances the stability of the country and meets its urgent needs."
"I honestly hold the political blocs responsible for this disruption, and I call on them to assume their national duties away from narrow calculations and political differences. The stage that Iraq is going through requires us all to transcend personal interests and prioritize the supreme interest of the homeland," he highlighted.
The Speaker of the Parliament called on "all members of the Council to commit to attending sessions and actively participating in passing laws that serve the interests of the Iraqi citizen, especially those related to improving basic services, supporting the economy, and enhancing security and stability."
"The Parliament will continue to work to achieve the aspirations of our people, and we will make every effort to ensure that the upcoming sessions are held on their scheduled date and work with all seriousness to complete the legislative projects included on the agenda," he included.
