DGIS arrests 4 on terrorism, drugs related charges

    The General Directorate of Intelligence and Security (DGIS) of the Ministry of Defense announced on Monday the arrest of four wanted for terrorism and drug and antiquities trafficking in Babylon and Muthanna.
     
     A ministry statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) stated that "under the guidance and supervision of the Minister of Defense, Thabet al-Abbasi, and within the continuation of the implementation of qualitative operations, the detachments of the Muthanna Intelligence and Security Directorate were able to arrest three wanted by the judiciary, one on charges of terrorism and two on trafficking and promotion of narcotics in the province, against whom arrest warrants were issued in accordance with the provisions of articles (4 / terrorism, 28 drugs)."
     
     The statement added that "legal measures have been taken against them and handed over to the concerned authorities."
     
     In a related context, the statement explained that "after obtaining judicial approvals, the detachments of the Directorate of Intelligence and Security of Babylon were also able to arrest an antiquities dealer in Babylon, where he was caught red handed while selling antiquities in the province," noting that "the artifacts were confiscated and the accused was referred to the competent authorities."
