Russian President Vladimir Putin has instructed the government and the country’s largest bank, Sberbank, to boost cooperation with China on artificial intelligence.
The Kremlin published Putin’s directive on its website on Wednesday, three weeks after he said Russia would work with BRICS partners and other countries to develop artificial intelligence.
Putin asked the government and Sberbank, which leads the country's efforts in artificial intelligence, "to ensure increased cooperation with the People's Republic of China in technology research and development in the field of artificial intelligence.”
Western sanctions aimed at restricting Russia’s access to technologies it needs to withstand its war against Ukraine have led the world’s largest microchip makers to stop exporting to Russia, severely curtailing Moscow’s AI ambitions.
