Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani confirmed today, Wednesday, that he would not hesitate to impose protection on local products, once production reaches 50%.
The Prime Minister's Media Office stated in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani visited the Soltair Dairy and Juice Factory, which is one of the private sector factories, in his first activity in 2025, in a message of support for the local Iraqi industry, in its public and private sectors."
According to the statement, the Prime Minister offered "congratulations to all workers on the occasion of the New Year, stressing that his visit represents a clear message of the government's insistence on developing the industrial sector and moving towards achieving an increase in meeting the needs of the local market through the national product," referring to "the government's approach to leaving the single economy by activating the industrial and agricultural sectors."
It explained that "the government, since the beginning of its work, has emphasized important sectors, including industry, as a broad sector through the volume of imports," pointing to "the efficiency and ability of Iraqi industrialists, and this was evident in this factory that adopted modern technology, in addition to the confidence of the Iraqi citizen in local production, especially food industries that are subject to inspection and monitoring by the competent authorities."
The Prime Minister stressed that "there is an opportunity for the Iraqi Federation of Industries to partner with the state and supporting ministries," stressing "support for Iraqi initiatives, businessmen and industrialists, as sovereign guarantees have been allocated for industrial projects, and construction, pharmaceutical and food industries have been identified as a priority.
It also referred to the Social Security Law that achieved equality between workers in the private and public sectors."
The statement explained that "through the Iraq Development Fund, the partnership with the private sector has been strengthened to establish a holding company, and the first company was named (the First Holding Company), which includes a group of Iraqi businessmen, and the fund participates in it by 10%, and there is a subscription percentage that will be offered to citizens to contribute by purchasing shares," noting that "the Council of Ministers does not hesitate to impose protection on local products, according to the Product Protection Law, whenever production reaches 50%, which is clear support for local industry."
