Iraq signs Makkah Agreement to enhance cooperation in preventing and combating corruption

    Iraq signed on Wednesday the Makkah Agreement to enhance cooperation in the field of preventing and combating corruption and recovering its returns.
     
        A statement by the Integrity Commission, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), said that "Iraq signed the Makkah Al-Mukarramah Agreement for the member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in the field of anti-corruption law enforcement, where the Cabinet authorized the Federal Integrity Commission to sign the agreement."
     
       The statement added that "this came during the participation of Iraq, represented by the Commission, in the second ministerial meeting of anti-corruption law enforcement agencies in the member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, held in the Qatari capital, Doha, for the period from (26-27) of November."  
     
     It pointed out that "the meeting resulted in several decisions, including: the development of mechanisms to activate the provisions of the Makkah Convention on Cooperation in the Field of Law Enforcement stipulated in Chapter II of the Convention, with regard to persons suspected of committing corruption crimes, or the whereabouts of other persons concerned, and the movement of criminal proceeds or property derived from the commission of such crimes."
     
    The statement explained that "the agreement aims to enhance cooperation between anti-corruption law enforcement authorities in an efficient and speedy manner, encourage joining the Riyadh Global Initiative network, provide a legal framework for the exchange of information and investigations directly and quickly, and contribute to the prevention of corruption crimes and reduce safe havens for the corrupt."
