The Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, welcomed today, Wednesday, the entry into force of the ceasefire agreement between Lebanon and the Zionist entity, noting that the agreement represents an important step towards calm and stopping the bloodshed.
Aboul Gheit said in a statement followed by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "The Lebanese people suffered a lot during this war that claimed thousands of civilian victims and caused great destruction to the infrastructure," explaining that "the agreement represents an important opportunity for the Lebanese people to catch their breath and rearrange the internal political situation, especially with regard to the issue of electing a president for the republic after a vacancy that lasted for more than two years."
The official spokesman for the Secretary-General quoted Aboul Gheit according to the statement as stressing the need to complete the procedures for the Zionist withdrawal from all Lebanese territories as soon as possible, in preparation for the return of the displaced to their homes.
The spokesman explained that "the Secretary-General praised the efforts of the mediators to reach this agreement, stressing at the same time the need to intensify work to reach a ceasefire agreement in Gaza as soon as possible."
