Minister of Communications Hiyam Al-Yasiri confirmed today, Wednesday, that the ministry has sent a number of letters of interest and invitations to 22 international companies specialized in operating mobile phone networks.
The Minister of Communications said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "The ministry has sent several letters of interest and invitations to 22 international companies specialized in operating mobile phone networks."
She added, "Some companies have apologized due to the security events in the region, and some have expressed a desire to work in Iraq, including Vodafone International."
She continued, "The Council of Ministers had previously authorized the ministry to negotiate with international companies wishing to work in Iraq according to specific criteria such as a solid international brand, revenue volume, number of subscribers, experience with fifth-generation technology, transfer of expertise and marketing plans.".
She pointed out that "Vodafone International was the closest to the selection criteria because it has the experience and international brand, specializes in fifth-generation technologies and is successful in all markets in which it has operated within its field of specialization in operating mobile phone networks."
