The Iraqi National Security Service (INSS) announced on Saturday the successful dismantling of a dangerous terrorist network and the arrest of the so-called Emir of the Kurdistan Sector of ISIS in Kirkuk Governorate.
In a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), INSS spokesperson Arshad Al-Hakim stated, "In a preemptive and high-precision operation based on intelligence information, a major terrorist plot targeting government sites and figures in Kirkuk Governorate has been foiled. The operation aimed to preserve the stability and security of the region."
He further revealed, "The National Security detachments in Kirkuk, in collaboration with the General Directorate of the Asayish Service in Sulaymaniyah, successfully dismantled an ISIS-affiliated network. The group comprised seven terrorists, including the so-called Emir of the Kurdistan Sector, identified as Azad Shakhi."
The statement added that one of the terrorists committed suicide after being surrounded. Security forces seized several items during the raid, including documents confirming the individuals' allegiance to ISIS, takfiri ideological books, communication devices, and a drone.
Additionally, the INSS confirmed that 50 terrorists have been arrested in Kirkuk Governorate, with judicial rulings issued against them for various crimes.
