The head of the Victory Coalition, Haider al-Abadi, confirmed today, Friday, that Iraq has the capabilities to play a major role in resolving regional issues.
Al-Abadi said, in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "We participated in the Iraq 2024 Initiative Conference, which was organized by the International Affairs Research Center (Chatham House), during which several international, regional and local axes were addressed that concern the future of Iraq and its role in the region."
Al-Abadi stressed during his speech that "Iraq today is capable of playing a major role in resolving regional issues, stressing: "Iraq should not be viewed only from the perspective of Iranian-American tension, especially since our country is paying a heavy price for being an arena for conflicts of influence, settling scores, or passing deals."
He explained that "Iraq's fate is directly linked to the foreign policy of the next US administration and the upcoming national elections next year."
Al-Abadi explained that "dealing with Iraq as a marginal state is a strategic mistake, and linking its fate structurally to thorny regional files, such as the Iranian file or the Palestinian-Zionist conflict, is a political sin that we will not accept."
Al-Abadi stated: "We reiterated our emphasis on the importance of restricting weapons to the state, and working to develop a clear roadmap to protect and strengthen the model of the Iraqi national civil state, and this model must enjoy immunity from self-destruction and external interference, so that we can establish strong state institutions capable of facing major challenges."
