The Arab League said Friday that it supports Iraq's request to convene a meeting to address the Zionist entity's threats.
"The General Secretariat of the Arab League received an official request from Iraq to hold an extraordinary session of the Council of the Arab League at the level of permanent delegates as soon as possible to discuss the memorandum of the President of the UN Security Council regarding the allegations of the Zionist occupation of increasing the frequency and intensity of attacks on it through Iraqi territory since last September, which aims to drag the region into a wider regional war," Ambassador Hossam Zaki, the assistant secretary-general of the Arab League, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA).
He added that "the General Secretariat of the Arab League received the Iraqi memorandum, and it was circulated to the Arab member states for consultation on setting the proposed date," noting that "several countries supported the request, and accordingly the date will be set in light of consultations between the General Secretariat of the Arab League and the current President of the Council of the Arab League, which is Yemen, to agree on the date."
He added, "The Iraqi memorandum that was submitted to the General Secretariat and distributed to the member states stated that the threats of the Zionist entity were mentioned in the message it sent to the Security Council, through which it seeks to expand its current aggressive practices in the region to include Iraq."
