Iraqi-Turkish meeting in Ankara discussing the water file

    The General Directorate of Water in the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Public Municipalities confirmed on Tuesday that an expected meeting will be held next week in the Turkish capital, Ankara, to discuss Iraq's water shares, while revealing that Iraq has submitted a proposal to implement 5 joint projects.


    The Turkish capital, Ankara, will host the third meeting next week for two days to discuss the water file, said the Director General of the General Directorate of Water in the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Public Municipalities, Ammar Adel Al-Maliki, to the Iraqi News Agency - INA. 


    Al-Maliki added, "Our discussions are ongoing with Turkey in various formations to draw up Iraq's water share. All meetings witnessed the presentation of water problems and the climate change file, especially in the past five years, with continuous demands to increase Iraq's water share."


    "Many projects in the governorates have stopped and there are many water complexes that have gone out of service due to low water levels, especially from the outlets that originate in Türkiye," he noted.


    He pointed out that "the Supreme Framework Committee for the Iraqi-Turkish Relations File, based on the visit of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his meeting with PM Muhammed S. Al-Sudani, drew up a policy under the name of the framework agreement, which included several projects from various ministries concerned with the issue of water, agriculture and the environment to be implemented by the executive Turkish authorities." 


    "The General Directorate of Water proposed 5 projects within the agreement, to be implemented according to the 2025 plan or the end of 2024 in addition to the projects of other ministries, as there is cooperation between the Iraqi and Turkish sides in this regard," he included.
