Ministry of Migration and Displacement announced Tuesday the impending closure of the camps file in Erbil, emphasizing a flexible approach to facilitating the return of displaced individuals to their homes.
Ali Abbas Jahangir, the Director General of the Department of Affairs, informed the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that approximately 18,000 families are currently residing in 22 camps, with 6 located in Erbil and 16 in Dohuk. He added that the return process is ongoing and that some camps, particularly in Erbil, will be closing soon as they have already been vacated by their residents.
He pointed out that "the ministry is continuing with this file and there is flexibility to return them and according to the desire of the families to stay within the displacement area, but outside the camp or a third area, and to return and the privileges approved by the Cabinet based on the recommendations of the Ministry of Migration and Displacement," explaining that "the amounts of money are disbursed upon their arrival in their areas and promote the return treatment."
