Baghdad-INA
The Ministry of Migration and Displacement announced today, Saturday, the closure of all camps for the IDPs in the governorates, except for Kurdistan, while explaining the reason for the delay in preparing Sinjar district for repatriating its displaced families.
"The ministry has closed all camps for the IDPs in all provinces, except in the Kurdistan region," noting that "during this month, the last displacement camp in Mosul, which is Al-Jada'a camp, will be closed," Minister of Migration and Displacement Evan Jabro told The Iraqi News Agency (INA).
Jabro added that "The camps in the region are difficult to close because the ministry has no authority over them and is affiliated to KRG, but the ministry is coordinating to close Dohuk, Erbil and Sulaymaniyah camps," stressing that "the ministry supports the voluntary return, but it sees the lack of real will in the Kurdistan region to end the displacement file."
Jabro pointed out that "The ministry cannot pressure the Kurdistan Regional Government to close the camps, but it requests that there should be a dialogue with the federal government to end the displacement file," noting that "the majority of the IDPs in the camps of Erbil and Sulaymaniyah have been prepared to repatriate for their cities, except for the people of Sinjar, until the implementation of Sinjar Agreement so that they can return to their cities."
