Five Drug and Arms Dealers Arrested, Including an International Trafficker

    The Directorate General of Intelligence and Security (DGIS) announced on Friday the arrest of five individuals involved in drug and arms trafficking, including a notable international trafficker, across Baghdad, Babil, and Al-Muthanna.

    In a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), the DGIS reported that "under the guidance and supervision of Defense Minister Thabet Al-Abbasi, and as part of ongoing operations by the Directorate General of Intelligence and Security within the Ministry of Defense, the Baghdad Intelligence and Security Directorate successfully apprehended two drug traffickers in Baghdad, thanks to precise intelligence gathering."

    The statement further noted that "one of the apprehended individuals is an international trafficker, with arrest warrants issued against them under Articles 27 and 28 of the Drug Law." It emphasized that "legal proceedings have been initiated, and they have been referred to the appropriate authorities."

    Additionally, the statement highlighted that "units from the Directorate also arrested two arms dealers in Babil, along with another individual involved in drug trafficking and distribution in Al-Muthanna. Judicial warrants have been issued against them, and they have been appropriately handed over to the competent authorities."
