Interior Minister Abdul Amir al-Shammari announced on Thursday that the administrative borders of Nineveh province are 100 percent secured, pointing to the ministry's readiness to receive the security file in the province.
Al-Shammari said in his speech during a press conference in Nineveh Governorate, attended by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "Today we discussed with the local government in Nineveh Governorate several files, including the transfer of security responsibility in city centers to the Nineveh Police Command, and work is underway and ongoing to complete the final preparations, which include installing cameras in city centers, as well as activating the local police and police squad to ensure security in Nineveh," noting that "Nineveh Governorate during the current year was stable in security, as it was the least provinces in terms of accidents and criminal offences."
"The province is ready to take full security responsibility, while the open areas outside the cities will remain under the responsibility of the controlling units of the army and the Popular Mobilization, as this matter has been fully discussed and in the coming period will witness the transfer of responsibility," he said.
"We also discussed supporting the police command and the high co-ordination between the security services with the province and making Nineveh a city that attract investments," he said.
He continued: "We supported the Sinjar district through the involvement of its people in the local police and formed emergency regiments of the Yazidi community, and we also supported it by forming 3 emergency regiments, in addition to opening police stations and a directorate for western Nineveh, in addition to the presence of army units."
In his speech at the conference, Nineveh Governor Abdul Qadir al-Dakhil said, "The Ministry of Interior is one of the ministries supporting Nineveh and in the issue of logistical support in the unified ID card and passports, as well as there is great progress in the security file in Nineveh , as we focus on the security file inside cities."
For his part, Interior Minister Abdul Amir al-Shammari stressed the great role of the Iraqi judiciary in supporting the ministry's work to enforce the law and hold wanted persons accountable.
The ministry said in a statement, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "Interior Minister Abdul Amir Al-Shammari and his accompanying delegation met, today, the President of the Court of Appeal of Nineveh Governorate, Raed Hamid," noting that "during this meeting, they discussed strengthening cooperation and coordination between the Ministry of Interior and the judiciary in order to achieve the desired goals in enhancing security and stability and reducing the crime rate."
For his part, the head of the Court of Appeal praised "the work of the police forces in Nineveh province".
