The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, or AIIB, held meetings on Thursday in which Finance Minister Taif Sami took part.
"Minister of Finance Taif Sami Mohammed, along with the Governor of Iraq, participated in the ninth annual meeting of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), which was held on September 25–26, 2024 in the city of Samarkand, Republic of Uzbekistan," the ministry said in a statement obtained by the Iraqi News Agency (INA)." It further stated that the meeting was held under the slogan "BUILDING RESILIENT INFRASTRUCTURE FOR ALL," with 109 countries represented among the governors' roundtables.
Iraq wants to develop and renovate infrastructure, particularly in the areas of industry, transportation, and energy. This meeting is the country's second since joining the bank, according to the ministry.
"In view of the global financial crises, Iraq's accession to the Asian Bank aims to stimulate investments and finance infrastructure projects, as well as deepen cooperation and improve communication between Asia and the countries of the world."
