The State Company for Maritime Transport - SCMT announced on Monday the formation of specialized committees to purchase new ships to enhance the marine fleet.

"SCMT obtained initial approvals from the Cabinet and the Ministry of Finance to purchase new ships in terms of enhancing the marine fleet as specialized technical committees are currently studying the types of ships and vessels that Iraq needs," said the Company's media director, Talib Al-Badri, to the Iraqi News Agency - INA.

Al-Badri noted that "the Company is carrying out periodic maintenance of the marine vessels by the requirements of international maritime organizations. These operations are being worked on the ship - Al-Hadba - in one of the Dubai shipyards in UAE."

"The Maritime Agencies Department is important, concerned with the entry of foreign and Iraqi ships into territorial waters, and coordination with the General Company for Iraqi Ports to follow up on docking operations in ports," he highlighted.
