Ministry of Transport revealed today, Sunday, the proximity of twinning the Iraqi ports with their Egyptian and Jordanian counterparts, while referring to the details of the construction contract for two ships and the reasons for stopping it.
The Minister of Transport, Nasser Hussein Bandar, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "the Maritime Transport Company is a self-financing company that owns a group of ships, and there are agreements that will be signed after the tripartite summit was held between Iraq, Egypt and Jordan," noting that "there is communication between the Academy The Jordanian and Egyptian Navy will cooperate with the Training Institute in Iraqi Ports, which will soon result in a twinning to transfer expertise and develop the certificate issued by Iraqi ports to seafarers.
Regarding a contract to build two ships for various purposes, which the ministry had sought earlier, Bandar confirmed that "this contract was signed during the time of the former Minister of Transport Hadi Al-Amiri in 2013, with a value of 286 million dinars, which includes the purchase of 8 ships," noting that "the contract has stopped." At the time of the former Minister of Transport, Baqir Jabr, there was a problem between the ministry and the investing party.
He continued, "We tried to deal with this investor by rebuilding two ships from our own money in exchange for waiving the terms of the contract," explaining that "the talks stalled because we demanded that the iron be Ukrainian according to the terms of the contract, but the investing party refused that."
