Iraqi Atomic Energy Commission announces important achievement in peaceful nuclear applications

    Naeem Al-Aboudi, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and the Head of the Atomic Energy Authority, announced on Sunday a landmark achievement in the realm of peaceful nuclear applications.
     
    In a statement to the Iraqi News Agency (INA), Al-Aboudi revealed that "the Atomic Energy Commission has successfully restored the operation of the thermal cell, an essential component in the irradiation process, which is vital for utilizing nuclear energy for peaceful purposes."
    He underscored that "this accomplishment was realized through the expertise and dedication of Iraqi professionals."
     
    He elaborated that "the scientists at the Commission played a pivotal role in reactivating this thermal cell, which boasts extensive applications, including the sterilization of food products, decontamination of medical materials, and the preservation of historical artifacts and documents. Furthermore, its significance extends to the health and agricultural sectors, where Iraq faces a pressing need for enhanced agricultural outputs, with promising experimental results poised to revolutionize agricultural production."
     
    Al-Aboudi also highlighted that "during a recent visit to Vienna, significant agreements and memoranda of understanding were established with several prominent nations, setting the stage for future collaboration."
    He noted that "these initiatives will have a positive and transformative impact on the operations of the Atomic Energy Commission, including advancements in the development of a zero-power nuclear reactor, the application of radioactive isotopes, and innovations in radiochemistry."
     
    He expressed profound "gratitude and appreciation for the invaluable contributions of Iraqi scientists," affirming that "the Atomic Energy Commission is committed to further initiatives that aim to restore Iraq’s esteemed position within the regional and international nuclear landscape."
