Prime Minister Mohammed S. Al-Sudani conducted today, Saturday, inspection visits to the sites of the projects for expanding Abu Nuwas Street and constructing the new Jadriya Bridge, which spans a length of 7,722 meters from Al-Karrada Martyrs Park to Al-Nusour Square, passing through Jazirat A'aras on the Karkh side.
The Prime Minister's Media Office stated in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "Al-Sudani conducted a field visit to the implementation site of projects; expanding Abu Nawas Street, and constructing the new Al-Jadriya Bridge, which extends for a length of (7722 m), starting from the Karrada Martyrs Park to the approaches to Al-Nusour Square, and passing through the wedding island next to Al-Karkh," adding that "Al-Sudani followed up on the field of the refineries intersection bridge, the bridge linking the double-decker bridge to the suspension bridge, and the construction of a tunnel at the Ahmed Orabi Square intersection, as part of the first package of projects to relieve traffic congestion in Baghdad."
The Prime Minister also conducted on-site inspections of the Refinery Intersection overpass, the overpass linking the Two-Story Bridge with the Suspension Bridge, and the construction of an underpass at Ahmed Urabi Square intersection, as part of the first phase of traffic congestion relief projects in Baghdad.
The Prime Minister met with the engineering teams and workers involved in these critical projects supervised by the Ministry of Construction, Housing, Municipalities, and Public Works. He listened to detailed briefings on work mechanisms, routes, progress rates, and the swift measures taken to address obstacles and challenges faced during the projects.
Prime Minister Al-Sudani reviewed the modern technologies used in constructing the overpasses, beams, and concrete pillars, allowing for rapid execution with minimal demolition of existing structures. He directed the preparation of entrances and ensured smooth traffic flow for close residential area.
The first project, extending from Abu Nuwas Street, consists of four bridges. The first is the Abu Nuwas Bridge, spanning 1,950 meters. The second bridge is located opposite to the new Central Bank building, with a length of 700 meters. The third bridge, the new Jadriya Bridge, extends 520 meters across the Tigris River, connecting Al-Karrada area with Al-Nusour Square in Karkh. The fourth bridge, the new Qadisiyah Bridge, spans 810 meters and features a unique design linking the approaches of the four bridges.
The second project, connecting the Two-Story Bridge with the Suspension Bridge, consists of three main parts. The first part starts from the Expressway (Dorah-Yousifiya) passing through the Refinery Intersection and includes a bridge 485 meters long with two lanes.
The second part extends from the Two-Story Bridge through Ahmed Urabi Square (Two-Story Bridge Square) and Sati' al-Husri Street to the Tigris River Basin, where it crosses the Suspension Bridge towards 14th of July Street. This section spans 1,760 meters and is 19.65 meters wide, making it a major artery for daily traffic. The third part includes a underpass extending from University of Baghdad Street toward Karrada Street, 480 meters long and 26 meters wide, featuring three lanes in each direction.
