Prime Minister Muhammed S. Al-Sudani announced four new projects aimed at alleviating traffic congestion in Baghdad as part of the first package of such initiatives.
PM Al-Sudani conducted on Tuesday, a site visit to Aden Square, where a bridge is under construction over Imam Musa Al-Kadhim Street with two lanes. During the visit, he assessed the progress, met with the nighttime shift workers involved in the project, and received a briefing on the project's stages, challenges, and difficulties. He also issued directives to address these challenges effectively, according to a statement by the PM Media Office, received by the Iraqi News Agency - INA.
Among the new projects announced by the Prime Minister in various areas of Baghdad is one involving the construction of a bridge and a tunnel at the College of Fine Arts Intersection. ''This project encompasses two bridges connecting the road from Al-Mustansiriya University to the road leading to Al-Sarrafiya Intersection, and vice versa. One of the bridges measures approximately 400 meters in length, including its approaches, and has a width of 9 meters.''
''The second project entails the development of Al-Rashid Camp intersection with Dora Expressway. This project includes the construction of a 470-meter-long tunnel with two lanes connecting Al-Rashid Camp and Al-Zafaranah Road to the Karrada area. Additionally, it involves the construction of a flyover spanning 805 meters in length and 9 meters in width, linking Baghdad Al Jadeeda Road at Al-Rashid Camp to Al-Zafaranah. The project also encompasses the enhancement of the surface intersection to ensure smooth traffic flow, serving vehicle movement on the (Baghdad Al Jadeeda-Karada), (Al-Zafaranah-Baghdad Al Jadeeda), and (Karada-Baghdad Al Jadeeda) roads,'' included the statement.
''The third project involves the reconstruction of the Cordoba-Port Said Street intersection. It includes the construction of the Cordoba overpass, measuring 725 meters in length and 18 meters in width. This overpass spans Port Said Street, starting from the Al Tayaran Square Tunnel and extending across the Mohamed Al-Qasim overpass.''
''The fourth project encompasses the construction of a road connecting the Mohamed Al-Qasim Expressway and the Kirkuk-Baghdad Road, passing through Al-Basateen neighborhood. It extends the Mohamed Al-Qasim Expressway to intersect with Al-Saddah Road, which further extends to intersect with the Kirkuk-Baghdad Road. This road measures approximately 2.5 km in length and includes two lanes in each direction.''
Additionally, the project involves the construction of an overpass bridge over the Army Canal Road, spanning the Muhammed Al-Qasim Expressway, with a length of 700 meters, including its approaches.
