"Prime Minister Mohamed Shia Sudani, opened today construction of Baghdad-Diyala-Kirkuk entrance, after its rehabilitation and maintenance to meet standard specifications," the Prime Minister's Media Office said in a statement obtained by the Iraqi News Agency (INA).
Al-Sudani also inaugurated the construction of A-Nahrawan Water supply Project, southeast of Baghdad, with a production capacity of 4,000 cubic meters per hour,” the statement continued. “As part of the projects of the first package to break traffic jams in Baghdad, he also opened construction of overpasses over the Army Canal in eastern Baghdad, connecting Jamila to Al-Jihad Street."
During the inauguration, the Prime Minister praised the efforts of all parties involved in completing these vital projects, including the Ministry of Construction and Housing, Baghdad Municipality (Mayoralty of Baghdad), Baghdad Governorate, and the executing companies. He emphasized the need to expedite the completion of traffic decongestion projects to bring about a significant transformation in reconstruction and development projects, especially as the residents of Baghdad have borne the burden of traffic jams and road closures associated with these projects. The Prime Minister also reaffirmed the government's commitment to completing delayed projects, particularly those that are vital and strategic.
The prime minister stressed confidence in the technical and engineering teams to complete the traffic decongestion projects as quickly as possible, and we commend all the teams that contributed to the implementation, affirming focusing on the issue of Baghdad's entrances due to the suffering and harm they cause when entering Baghdad, as well as traffic accidents and wasted time since the beginning of the government's duties
Al-Sudani said that “today we complete the first entrance, with the remaining entrances to follow. We have instructed the Baghdad Municipality and Baghdad Governorate to expedite the completion of the remaining entrances,” stressing the importance of maintaining these roads by adhering to weight stations and holding violators accountable.
He further said that significant amounts of money have been spent, and due to the actions of some truck drivers, these roads are being damaged, adding that, the Nahrawan Water Project serves more than 350,000 people, and water scarcity has led some residents to leave the area.
Al-Sudani affirmed making the completion of delayed projects a priority, that the water project after resolving legal and technical issues was completed.
“A few months ago, we laid the foundation stone for a major project in Nahrawan for sewage networks and a treatment plant, aiming to ensure that the infrastructure in all neighborhoods of Nahrawan is up to standard,” he said appreciating “the efforts of the workers in these three sites and look forward to more, as we promised our people to complete delayed projects, finish new projects, and complete the infrastructure.”
