Inaugurating gas processing units in a field east of Baghdad on Thursday, Oil Minister Hayyan Abdul Ghani emphasized that this was the first time in 15 years that the units had been operational.
"The gas presses were purchased and the Central Oil Company was unable to install them at that time, and these presses remained in their locations and many specialized companies were unable to operate them," Abdul Ghani said in a statement to the Iraqi News Agency (INA) on the sidelines of the opening.
"The Central Oil Company's employees were able to restore these presses and disrupt the operation process after a 15-year break," he continued, emphasizing "the utilization of gas and its conversion into clean energy as well as the provision of fuel for power plants."
"The gas is pumped through specialized pipes to power stations once it is diverted to these presses," he stated.
