The management of the West Qurna 2 oil field revealed, today, Thursday, the details of the oil industry operations, production and oil purification.

The official of the Operations and Production Division in the West Qurna 2 field, Hassan Majeed, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA): “After the crude oil is extracted from the reservoir, it enters the processing units, where the accompanying water, impurities and salts are withdrawn from it, and after that the oil is transferred to the tanks in which There are four tanks in the field, two of which are outside the specifications, and two tanks are within the export specifications, each with a capacity of 56 thousand cubic meters,” indicating, “The storage tanks, in the event that export stops and problems occur, energy is stored in them for two days.”.

He added, "As for the crude oil export system, it consists of five pumps, operating at a pressure of 15 bar, and five other pumps, depending on the design, reaching 80 bar. The oil is pumped through pipelines to the warehouse in the brick tanks.".

He pointed out, "The GTPP power plant also consists of three turbine units, each with a capacity of 42 megawatts. These units operate on gas associated with crude oil in normal cases, and on diesel in emergency situations, and then the gas is obtained from pressure isolators." It is then transported to the four gas processing units to purify it and remove impurities from it. It is treated to transform it into sweet gas, after which the treated gas enters the turbine electricity generation units.

As for the water associated with the oil, Majeed explained, “In the old field stations such as Rumaila and West Qurna 1, the associated water that comes from the reservoirs is disposed of with buffers and salts, while in the rest of the fields there are pits - ponds, and it is disposed of through ponds - pits, and from Then it is evaporated,” pointing out, “Given the proximity of population centers to the West Qurna 2 field, Lukoil has established a treatment plant for the water associated with oil extraction.”.

He added, "This water contains salts and drops of crude oil, so it passes through special units to separate the oil, reprocess it, and pump it. As for the accompanying water, it is injected into the Dammam reservoir, located between a depth of approximately 900 and 1,500 meters, but before injection, this water is stored in tanks and passed through." Through processing and filtration units to ensure that it conforms to the injection specifications in the Dammam layer, every part of it is injected into the Mushrif reservoir, and the part that does not conform to the specifications is injected into the pollutant wells.”.

Majeed stressed, "The importance of the presence of the Russian company Lukoil in the field, with the aim of exchanging and gaining experience in the oil industry," stressing, "The company is cooperating in this regard."
