Al-Sudani inaugurates the Turkish-Iraqi Power transmission line after twenty years of delay

    Prime Minister Mohammed S. Al-Sudani inaugurated Today, via a video conference, the Iraqi-Turkish power transmission line through the KIsik station west of Mosul to supply the northern region with a capacity of 300 megawatts the ceremony was attended by the Minister of Electricity.
     
    Al-Sudani said, during the opening of the Iraqi-Turkish electrical interconnection line project, issued in a statement from his private office, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA),”The Prime Minister praised the efforts of the Ministry of Electricity teams, especially the staff of the State Company for Northern Electricity Transmission, for completing this project, which had been delayed since 2004 this accomplishment came after continuous work in constructing substations, transmission lines, and negotiations with the Turkish side.”
     
    Prime Minister Al-Sudani highlighted,” the importance of establishing a connection that extends to the Turkish grid and beyond to Europe, viewing it as a strategic energy option for the future. This initiative is part of the government’s vision for connecting with neighboring countries' grids, and aims to complete the connection with the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) electric grid by the end of this year. This will enable Iraq to integrate into the regional energy system, allowing for diversity and exchange under various peak load conditions.”
     
    The statement added,” The project included the construction of the KIsik transformer station (400 kV), the first-time use of ultra-fine thermal wires for the 115 km line, the extension of the (132 kV) line to Tal Afar, and the installation of voltage stability capacitors.”
     
    The line will allow the transmission of 300 megawatts from Turkey to Iraq, providing electricity to the provinces of Nineveh, Salahuddin, and Kirkuk during peak loads.
