The importance of protecting media freedom and enabling media institutions to carry out their duties in a professional and impartial manner was emphasized on Thursday by Acting Speaker of the Parliament Mohsen Al-Mandalawi and Chairman of the Media and Communications Commission Ali Al-Moayyad.

"The Acting Speaker of the Parliament, Mohsen Al-Mandalawi, received the Chairman of the Media and Communications Commission, Ali Al-Moayyed, in the presence of the Advisor to the Speaker of the Parliament, Batoul Muwaffaq, in a meeting focused on strengthening joint cooperation to support media institutions in Iraq," read a statement from the Acting Speaker's media office that the Iraqi News Agency (INA) obtained.

"Ensuring media freedom and enabling media institutions to perform their tasks professionally and objectively, thus contributing to the building of a democratic and conscious society" was emphasized by both parties.

According to the statement, "the meeting discussed ways to support the families of martyrs and wounded media workers, in recognition of their heroic role in conveying the truth, who made great sacrifices in covering the battles to liberate the country from the terrorist Daesh."
