PM Muhammed S. Al-Sudani made on Monday, a phone call to Iranian President-elect Masoud Pezeshkian and extended an invitation to him to visit Iraq.
During the call, Al-Sudani congratulated the Iranian President on his victory in the elections, and also "congratulated the Islamic Republic on its success in holding the elections within a short period, and at a pivotal stage that Iran, the government and people, experienced, after the painful plane crash that claimed the lives of the Iranian President, the Foreign Minister, and their comrades," according to a statement by the PM Media Office - received by the Iraqi News Agency - INA.
The call witnessed a discussion of bilateral relations, and an emphasis on the continuation of cooperation efforts in various economic and security sectors and files, "in a way that enhances the interests of the two neighboring countries and the prosperity of their people."
The PM extended an official invitation to the Iranian president-elect to visit Iraq to consolidate relations and discuss several important files.
In turn, Pezeshkian expressed his "thanks to Al-Sudani," stressing "his country's keenness to expand cooperation and support bilateral understandings in many fields, in a way that enhances the stability efforts of the two countries and the region."
