Al-Sudani: INIS accomplished remarkable success and played a significant role in tearing down terror groups

    While praising the Iraqi National Intelligence Service (INIS) significant contributions to the deconstruction of terror groups and their remarkable accomplishments, Prime Minister Mohamed Shia Al-Sudani stated on Monday that the government was eager to enhance the effectiveness of all security agencies.

    "On the occasion of the twentieth anniversary of its founding, Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani paid a visit to the headquarters of INIS," according to a statement released by the Prime Minister's Media Office and obtained by the Iraqi News Agency (INA).

    "Al-Sudani attended a ceremony held at the INIS headquarters on this occasion, in which he praised the distinguished efforts made by the Service's leaders, departments, and employees on the way to achieving the tasks and duties entrusted to them, and playing a pivotal role in maintaining Iraq's security and warding off dangers and threats in a proactive and professional manner," the statement continued.  
     
    As mentioned in the statement, "the Prime Minister oversaw the honoring of several families of the martyrs of the Service, heroes who sacrificed themselves for Iraq, during the implementation of the sacred duty," during the celebration.  

    The Prime Minister said, in a speech, during the celebration: "INIS was born under difficult circumstances, and came after suffering and fear of this security name, which abused the dictatorial regime annihilated its national value, and its role in protecting the national security of Iraq, which he did with all state agencies, as he made it a device to kill opponents, who rejected the regime's domination and intimidation of the people."
     
    He expressed his pride in "establishing an intelligence service after the fall of the dictatorship, a service that defends Iraq, faces dangers, preserves our political system, and works in accordance with the law and the constitution."

    "Today, the Service conducts significant operations against cross-border drug networks, INIS was able to target a number of ISIS terrorist leaders, the most significant of which was Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi and his purported successor, Abdullah Qardash," he stated.  
     
    He noted that "the intelligence service is a field service that fought many risks that made it provide the best officers and affiliates to defend the homeland," adding that "the intelligence service provided dozens of martyrs during the face of terrorism in the intelligence duties assigned to them, and wounded many of them, and this confirms that it is no different in its sacrifices from other services."
     

    He declared, "In recognition of their sacrifices and in fairness to them, the government has placed the care of the families of our security service martyrs, of all kinds, at the top of its priorities."
     
    And yet he added, "the government was keen to maintain the independence and professionalism of the service," adding that "its officers and affiliates work within a legal and constitutional framework." The government was also keen to improve the performance of all of its security services, familiarize them with the most recent scientific theories and methodologies, and give the service a great deal of attention to building its human and technical capabilities in order to improve its work and face the challenges that threaten Iraqi national security.
