The visit to Washington aims to activate the Strategic Framework Agreement, says PM Al-Sudani

    Prime Minister Mohammed S. Al-Sudani gave a press statement this Saturday morning before his departure to the United States, in which he emphasized that this official visit occurs at a delicate and sensitive time in the relations with the United States, as well as in the context of regional conditions and the ongoing crimes against innocents in the Palestinian territories, in addition to concerns about the widening of the conflict in our region.
     
    Al-Sudani stated that the aim of the visit is to transition relations with the United States to a new phase that includes activating the provisions of the Iraqi-US Strategic Framework Agreement, that aligns with the Iraqi government's program focusing on economic and financial reforms and other important areas, as well as productive partnerships with various countries around the world.
     
    “Al-Sudani emphasized that his meeting with President Biden will discuss the regional issues and the current escalations, focusing on the joint efforts to promote calm and prevent the conflict from widening, which could impact global stability,” stated the Media Office Of The Prime Minister in a statement, received by the Iraqi News Agency-INA.
     
    “The meeting will also review the work of the High Military Commission between Iraq and the International Coalition, aimed at establishing a timeline to end the coalition's mission and transition to bilateral relations with the coalition member states,” the statement added.
     
    The Prime Minister stated that the visit will include meetings with the U.S. Secretary of State, Secretary of Defense, Secretary of the Treasury, the National Security Advisor, representatives from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and senior officials from major oil and industrial companies.
     
    Al-Sudani reiterated that the visit embodies the desire to build a sustainable strategic partnership based on mutual respect, and the preservation of Iraq's security, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
     
    Accompanying the prime minister on his official visit to Washington is a delegation comprising government officials, including several ministers, members of parliament, and advisors, as well as representatives from the private sector including business leaders and industrialists from various sectors. During the visit, extensive discussions will take place with American officials regarding bilateral relations, and a range of economic, financial, trade, and security issues, as well as topics related to education, culture, and more. The visit will also include the signing of several investment contracts with major American companies.
     
    The visit will also witness the inaugural meeting of the Higher Coordinating Committee (HCC), aimed at advancing the implementation of the Strategic Framework Agreement across various sectors including energy, banking and financial cooperation, transportation, anti-corruption efforts, recovery of Iraqi funds, business, education and culture.
