Plasschaert: Current Iraqi government made a leap in areas of security, services

    The UN representative in Iraq, Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, confirmed on Tuesday, that the current Iraqi government has achieved a positive leap in the areas of security and services.

    “The National Security Advisor, Qasim Al-Araji, received in his office the UN representative in Iraq, Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert," according to a statement by the Media Office of the National Security Advisor, received by the Iraqi News Agency - INA.

    During the meeting, they discussed "the latest political and security developments in the region, as well as the file of the Syrian Al-Hawl camp and the importance of dismantling it, due to the danger it poses to Iraq and the region."

    They also discussion of means of coordination between the United Nations Refugee Organization and the Iraqi authorities responsible for this file.

    Al-Araji stressed, "The United Nations is an international cover that can be used for the benefit of Iraq and assistance in humanitarian issues," noting that "the government program included many items that would achieve societal cohesion and sustainable security."

    In turn, Plasschaert pointed out that “Iraq today is different from Iraq five years ago,” stressing that “the current government has made a positive leap in the areas of security and services, as the UN mission continues to support it and continue working for constructive cooperation that serves Iraq’s issues and prior interests.”
