The US targeting of a vehicle associated with the Popular Mobilization Forces was deemed by the Security Media Cell to be an obvious act of aggression and a breach of Iraqi sovereignty.
Major General Tahseen Al-Khafaji, the cell's leader, stated in a statement obtained by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that "this new aggression weakens all understandings, after it was confirmed that the United States targeted a vehicle belonging to the Popular Mobilization Forces through an American drone, which led to the martyrdom of its leaders."
Noting that "this targeting is a clear aggression and a violation of Iraqi sovereignty and dragging the region into dangerous repercussions," he continued, "We also hold the US and the coalition forces responsible for the repercussions of these dangerous actions that threaten the security and safety of the country and a clear damage of all talks that are taking place between both sides."
